Microsoft account hacked

Hi! Unfortunately, I fell for a discord scam a few hours ago that cost my microsoft account to be hacked and compromised. I had to enter my username into a discord server, and then give them a verification code sent to my recover email, which they used to get into my account, remove all my security methods, add in their own, and change my password. The hacker also changed the original email the account was tied to into one of their own. I can no longer log in to the account.

I tried to apply for account recovery, but my request was not approved. May I know if there is a way to recover this account, as it is very important to me? Or alternatively, is there any way to disable/delete this account so the hacker cannot access more of my info? Thank you!

This is a widely reported scam on Discord joining a server, you get redirected to a fake page to enter your details and that code gave them full access to your account and they immediately change the recovery details like the associated Email to block you from accessing the account.

I wish I had better news, but when a Microsoft account is hacked, if the hackers change the associated Email or if 2FA is enabled on the account, then that account is usually no longer recoverable, this forum is just a user to user account and no-one here has any account access, try using the process they provide on this link to recover a hacked account, if this process is not successful, sadly, that account cannot be recovered.

Account recovery for a hacked Microsoft account is fully automated and is handled only through the official recovery process. Support agents and forum moderators cannot bypass or override this process.

Based on the described situation (security info removed, primary alias/email changed, password changed, and a recovery attempt already denied), the following are the only available options:

    1. Use the official hacked-account recovery flow again
      • Follow the guidance in How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account: How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account.
      • Start from the sign-in helper tool linked there. It will:
        • Ask for the email address or phone number.
        • Show self-help options or offer a chance to talk to an agent (who can only guide through the same process).
      • When using the recovery form, provide as much accurate information as possible (old passwords, subject lines of emails, contacts, etc.). If a previous attempt was denied, try again from a different device or network as suggested in similar cases.
    2. Understand the limits of recovery
      • As documented in similar Q&A cases, if a hacker has changed the associated email/security info and the recovery form cannot verify ownership, the account is usually no longer recoverable.
      • Microsoft Support cannot manually restore access or revert security changes when the automated system does not have enough proof that the requester is the legitimate owner.
    3. Disabling or deleting the compromised account
      • There is no separate manual path to disable or delete a personal Microsoft account when access is already lost and recovery fails.
      • If the automated recovery process does not return access, there is no supported way to sign in and close or delete the account, and Support cannot do this on behalf of the user.
    4. Protect other accounts and devices
      • Run a full antivirus/malware scan on the PC or device used when the scam occurred, as described in the hacked-account article, before changing any other passwords.
      • Immediately change passwords and review security info on any other accounts (email, banking, social, etc.) that might share the same password or recovery email.

If the recovery form ultimately continues to fail and security info has been fully replaced by the attacker, the documented position is that the account cannot be recovered and there is no further escalation path.
