I am trying to connect a Umik 1 microphone to the USB C port of my Windows 11 laptop. But Windows does not recognise the microphone. How do I solve this?

    Try to reseat the connection.

Try a different USB-A→USB-C adapter or hub if you have one.

Open Device Manager -If you see a yellow-triangle "Unknown USB device" or "UMIK-1" with an error — right-click → Uninstall device, unplug, restart, plug back in.

If nothing shows up at all, that points more toward the adapter/cable/port than Windows.

Sound settings → Recording tab → UMIK-1 properties → Advanced/Enhancements tab → disable all enhancements

Use the following steps to troubleshoot the Umik-1 not being detected on the USB-C port in Windows 11:

    1. Check that Windows sees any input device
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, check whether any microphone appears when the Umik-1 is plugged into the USB-C port (possibly via an adapter). If nothing appears, continue with driver steps below.
    2. Verify microphone privacy settings
      • Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
      • Make sure Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are turned On.
      • If using a specific app, ensure that app is allowed under Let apps access your microphone.
    3. Reinstall USB audio / microphone drivers
      • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • For any USB audio or microphone device related to the Umik-1, right-click and select Uninstall device.
      • If available, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device (or Delete the driver software for this device) and confirm.
      • Repeat for other audio devices if needed.
      • Restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall audio devices and drivers automatically.
      • If they do not reinstall, in Device Manager right-click Sound, video and game controllers and select Scan for hardware changes.
      • After they appear, right-click the audio driver and select Update driver.
    4. Try a different USB port / adapter
      • If the Umik-1 is connected via a USB-C hub or adapter, move it to a different USB-C port or use a different adapter.
      • For USB audio issues, connecting the device to a different USB port can resolve port-specific problems.
    5. Confirm the microphone is set as default and test it
      • Go back to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, select the Umik-1 (if it now appears) under Choose a device for speaking or recording.
      • Select > to the right of the device to open Properties.
      • Under Input settings, select Start test, speak into the microphone, then Stop test and Play to confirm audio is captured. Adjust Input volume if needed.

If the Umik-1 still does not appear as an input device after these steps, the issue is likely with the USB-C adapter/port or the device firmware/driver from the microphone manufacturer.
