Outlook for Mac Bug – Original Message Not Included When Replying

Product: Microsoft Outlook for Mac

Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response.

Steps to reproduce:

Open Outlook for Mac.

Select any received email.

Click Reply.

A new reply message opens.

The original email content is not included in the reply.

Expected behavior:

The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings.

Actual behavior:

The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included.

Additional information:

The problem started immediately after the latest Outlook update.

The issue occurs with all emails tested.

The problem did not exist before the update.

Restarting Outlook or the Laptop do not resolve the issue.

System information:

Outlook version: [Version 16.110 (26061317)]
macOS version: [Apple M3 Pro]
Legacy Outlook

Impact:

This issue significantly affects email workflows because replies no longer contain the context of the original correspondence.

This is an extremely frustrating bug in this last update, and I hope a fix is on the way. This is frankly quite disappointing that something major like this completely evaded the software testing process before it was being rolled out.

I had the same problem using Outlook 16.110 on a Mac. Original message threads disappeared when replying after auto update to 16.110.

I rolled back to 16.109 and disabled auto updates for the time being until MS resolve this.

How long does it take to do that - its been a few weeks now and still no news.....

Equally important to Reply is Forwarding. When forwarding a message , obviously we want to forward the message. But when the original message is not included, then it defeats the purpose of forwarding. Yes, this needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks for reporting this issue. Microsoft is aware and actively investigating this behavior.

Replying to or forwarding an email does not include the original message in the email body in legac…

I have tested on previous version such as 16.109.3, and this behavior does not occur. Therefore, you may consider reverting to version 16.109.3 or older. This can be done by removing the current Outlook version and installing version 16.109.3 via Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

After that, turn off automatic updates for Legacy Outlook for Mac by going to Help > Check for Updates > unchecking Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date.

I apologize for the inconvenience this might have cause to your workflow, please revert back to precious version as a temporary workaround.

Thanks - but I was hoping not to have to reinstall it because it may take some time to export and import all my emails from the local folders. Do you know how long will it take to have a fix?

We're forum moderators do not have access to intervene to Microsoft product. Therefore, I cannot provide you the exact time when will Microsoft roll out the fix.

From my understanding, reinstall Outlook does not remove your local folders. You just need go to Finder > Application > Drag Outlook icon to Trash. Then reinstall from the link I provided.

Or you can back up this folder ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office.

I just tried the procedure:

I disabled updates

I closed Outlook

I downloaded version 16.109.3 (26053122) from the link: https://res.public.onecdn.static.microsoft/mro1cdnstorage/C1297A47-86C4-4C1F-97FA-950631F94777/MacAutoupdate/Microsoft_Outlook_16.109.26053122_Updater.pkg

I installed it

I restarted Outlook, but the installed version remains 16.110 (26061317), and the annoying bug persists for an email client

Am I doing something wrong?

Same here. I've downloaded 16.109, ran the install, completed it, yet my Outlook still remains 16.110 and the bug is still there. What am I doing wrong here?

Hi all,

Have you uninstalled the current Outlook version? Press Cmd + Q to completely quit Outlook.

Go to Finder > Application > Drag Outlook icon to Trash. Then double click the .pkg file to run the install again.

For your information, I downloaded and installed the beta 16.111 (26061710), and it also contains the bug.

Now I'm going to try installing version 16.109.3 (26053122) after uninstalling the application (as suggested by Jayden-P). I hope I don't lose anything, since my Outlook is connected to an Exchange server.

...and it worked!

Not only that, but it kept the configuration exactly as it was before (which I had my doubts about). I don’t have any local folders, but the app uninstallation probably preserves those as well (I’m not a tech expert, though - I have a different job).

I’m now using version 16.109.3 (26053122). Thanks to @Jayden-P for the support!

In my case, I cannot deactivate the automatic update as my laptop and software are administered by my organisation. What should I do in this case? Should I ask them to deactivate all updates of Microsoft Outlook?

If your device managed by your company, please inform your IT admin about your situation.

If possible, you can ask them what solution they can do in this situation. because each company will have different policy, they can adjust a single device or entire a device depends on the situation.
