The most likely cause is that the shared calendar connection in classic Outlook has broken or the calendar is still on the older sharing platform and needs to be re-added/“upgraded.” Because the calendar still appears on the owner’s (wife’s) computer, focus on re-adding it in classic Outlook on the affected computer.
Use these steps in classic Outlook for Windows to re-add and upgrade the shared calendar:
- In Outlook, go to the Calendar view and locate the missing shared calendar entry (if it still appears but is empty or greyed out). If it is still listed:
- Right‑click the shared calendar name.
- Select Delete Calendar to remove the broken connection.
- Close Outlook completely.
- Reopen Outlook and go back to the Calendar module.
- On the Home tab in the Calendar view, select Add Calendar and then choose Open Shared Calendar…
Important: Do not choose any option like “Add from address list,” as that adds the calendar using the older MAPI shared model.
- In the dialog, type or select the name of the calendar owner (wife’s Outlook.com/Exchange account) whose calendar is shared.
- Select OK. The shared calendar should reappear in the calendar list.
- Wait a few minutes for the initial sync to complete. Large calendars can take longer (up to hours) to fully repopulate, but events should gradually appear.
If the calendar does not appear after re-adding it, verify on the owner’s side (wife’s Outlook.com/Outlook) that the calendar is still shared with the affected account and that the correct permissions are granted, then repeat the remove/re‑add steps.
If there are still issues accessing the shared calendar after re-adding it, run the Outlook Calendar diagnostic using Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant on the affected PC to detect and fix shared calendar access problems:
- On the affected computer, open a browser and go to the Advanced Diagnostics – Outlook Calendar page.
- Download and run
SetupProd_CalCheck.exe.
- Install and run Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant when prompted; it will automatically scan the Outlook calendar configuration and report or fix issues related to shared calendars and permissions.
