Try the following steps in order:

    1. Install all Surface and Windows updates
      • Open the Surface app and go to Help & support.
      • Check the update status and select Check for updates to open Windows Update.
      • Install all available updates while the Surface is connected to the Surface Dock 2 and to power.
    2. Power reset the Surface Dock 2 and the external monitor
      • Unplug the Surface Dock 2 power supply from the wall socket for at least 5 seconds, then plug it back in.
      • Unplug the external monitor from the power outlet, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
    3. Check cables, adapters, and monitor input
      • Make sure the video cable between the dock and the monitor is firmly connected on both ends.
      • If using adapters (for example USB‑C to HDMI/DVI), ensure they are fully inserted and supported.
      • On the monitor, open the input/source menu and select the correct port (for example HDMI, DisplayPort, USB‑C, DVI, VGA).
      • If possible, try another video cable or another adapter.
    4. Verify Windows display settings
      • On the Surface, press Windows logo key + P and choose Duplicate or Extend (not "PC screen only").
      • If nothing appears, open Settings > System > Display and select Detect to search for the external display.
    5. Test with another monitor or adapter
      • Connect the same dock and cable to a different monitor or TV to see if the external display works.
      • If the adapter does not work with any external display, it may need to be replaced.
    6. Clear the Surface display cache (if still not working)
      • Disconnect the monitor and undock the Surface from the Surface Dock 2.
      • Download the Surface Dock registry file and open it.
      • Run surface dock registry.reg, choose Yes to allow changes and confirm.
      • Restart the Surface, reconnect the dock and monitor, then test the external display again.

If the Surface Dock 2 still does not connect to any external monitor after these steps, the dock, cable, or monitor may be faulty and may require replacement or further hardware diagnostics.
