Managing bookmarks, browsing history, and downloads in Edge on Windows 11
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
After a recent automatic update, all of my "Favorites" icons are now the generic gray globe. I have gone through all of the recmmended steps of clearing the cache and deleting the favorites and favoriteds_journal files. Did not resolve the issue. What do I have to do to get my icons back?
Managing bookmarks, browsing history, and downloads in Edge on Windows 11
So far, I still only have some of my icons back. And some of the ones that recovered have reverted to the gray globe again. Does Microsoft have any idea how to resolve this? Or am I stuck like this forever?
Just to confirm, did you set Edge to clear browsing history and other data when closing? You can check by going to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Clear browsing data on close. If any options are turned on, uncheck Browsing History. Someone in the thread below found this workaround for the issue.
I see. If you just open three favorites at once, do their icons come back? If that doesn't work either, you’ll need to replace them by saving new links. With your favorites open in tabs, press Ctrl + Shift + D or right-click and select More tools > Add all tabs to favorites then save so you can replace the ones that are corrupted.
Hi,
This bug has been reported by several users after updating to version 149. Since both the Favorites and Favorites_journal files have already been cleared, your Favorites need to be reloaded to restore the favicons. Go to edge://favorites, right-click a folder, and select Open all (x). Wait for each tab to load until the favicon appears, then check if the icons are back in your Favorites. If you have a large number of Favorites, it’s best to do this in batches. For reference, here is another thread with the same issue:
