Hi All,

I use Outlook version 16.110 on a Mac (M2Pro) running MacOS Tahoe 26.5

After last Microsoft update, when i am replying or forwarding; i see history of the email chain is getting removed. This is not expected as we cant check the email to understand the full history.

In search i found another thread which talking the exact same issue. I tried to implement the recommendations given in this thread, but it did not fixed my issue. I tried to tag this issue in that. But i was advised to open a new thread, hence i am opening this thread.

I use Outlook Legacy mode as it offers browsing from one email to other emails using keyboard option (ctrl+[ / ctrl ] ) and this option does not work in newer look.

Please help me to fix this issue. Let me know if you need any more details about the issue. If needed i can show the issue in a zoom/team web call as well.

    Hi RK

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how inconvenient this can be, especially when you rely on the message history to follow the conversation thread.

Based on my research, I found that a few other users recently experienced very similar behavior in Legacy Outlook for Mac version 16.110, where replying to or forwarding emails no longer includes the original message content.

As a temporary workaround, a rollback to an earlier version, such as 16.108 or 16.109.3, appears to have helped in similar cases. You may want to try this and see whether the issue persists:

+Open any Office app > Help > Check for Updates > clear the checkbox for “Automatically keep Microsoft Apps up to date.”

    +Quit all Office apps.

+Go to Applications > choose Microsoft Outlook > Move to Trash.

+Install the 16.108, 16.109 or 16.109.3 package from this link: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

You can refer to the following discussions:

I hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes after trying the rollback.

    Hi everyone,

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and updates.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a known issue affecting Legacy Outlook for Mac. Specifically, the issue impacts the retention of conversation history when replying to or forwarding messages. The product team is currently investigating this behavior, and a fix will be released once it becomes available.

For the latest updates on this issue, please refer to the following article, which will be updated as new information becomes available: Replying to or forwarding an email does not include the original message in the email body in legac…

As a workaround, you may want to consider downgrading to an earlier version of Outlook, as mentioned previously, if your environment allows it. Alternatively, you may temporarily switch to New Outlook until a fix is released.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Microsoft needs to fix this issue. This is RIDICULOUS and is causing SERIOUS issues in our organization. Billion dollar company can't update without completely screwing something up. Joke.

Another workaround (assuming they are going to fix this) is to hit reply to the email in Outlook Online, but then open Outlook Mac to finish it. That's a pain, but maybe a workaround while they fix this.

The described behavior matches a known issue where message content or headers are truncated when replying or forwarding in some Outlook for Mac builds. These issues have been addressed in later updates of Outlook for Mac.

To resolve the problem where history is removed when replying or forwarding in Legacy Outlook for Mac:

    1. Update Outlook for Mac to the latest available build for the channel in use. Several reply/forward and header‑truncation issues have been fixed in newer versions, for example:
      • A fix for truncated reply/forward headers in certain languages in build 16.20 (181208).
      • Multiple fixes to reply/forward behavior and plain‑text handling in later 16.xx builds, as reflected in the release notes.
    2. After updating, restart Outlook and test reply/forward on a new message chain to confirm that the full conversation history is preserved.
    3. If the issue persists after updating to the latest build, create a new Outlook profile and re-add the account, then test again. Corrupted profiles can cause unexpected reply/forward behavior.
    4. If still affected, consider switching from Legacy Outlook for Mac to the new Outlook for Mac client, as Legacy Outlook is in maintenance mode and will reach end of support against Exchange Online in October 2026. The new client receives the most up-to-date fixes and feature improvements.

If blocked from accessing required features or updates, contact Microsoft support for assistance, as recommended for customers impacted by Legacy Outlook limitations.
