Network Discovery Turned Off Every Time Windows 11 Starts

My Windows 11 has just been updated, and now Network Discovery is turned off every time I start Windows 11, and it has to be manually restarted. The home network was rock solid before the update.

Hi TCATHF,

Can you tell which Windows 11 build you are on by typing winver in search and hit enter, post back the build number.

Also can you list the KB number or update that caused this issue. Check update history and use snipping tool to take a shot of the updates.

Open CMD Admin and use this to reset network

netsh advfirewall reset

I believe KB5095093 which changed your settings and here some of those settings which were altered.

Firewall rule schema update: Microsoft hardened rule metadata to align with Defender’s new “Protected Rules” model. During migration, any rule group that didn’t match the new schema — including Network Discovery — was deleted and recreated disabled.

Service startup reset: FDResPub and SSDPSRV were reverted to Manual start type for some profiles.

Profile re‑classification: The update re‑evaluates network trust on boot; if the network lacks a valid signature, it flips to Public, which disables discovery.

Telemetry cleanup: Old rule GUIDs were purged, so the Settings toggle can’t find its linked rule group and defaults to Off.
