Now that 'Collections' has been eliminated from Edge, where are named windows stored?

    Hi Craig Schamel,

I understand why this is confusing, especially if you were using Collections or named browser windows to keep different groups of pages organized.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, do not have access to internal Edge storage data or the ability to restore removed browser features directly from here.

Collections is being retired/removed from Microsoft Edge. If you previously used Collections, Edge may offer options such as moving saved pages to Favorites or exporting the data, depending on your Edge version and account type. However, named windows are not the same feature as Collections, so they may not appear as Collections data or Favorites automatically.

To better understand what you are referring to, could you please confirm a few details?

    • When you say “named windows,” do you mean the Name window option in Edge, where you give a browser window a name?
    • Or are you referring to Workspaces, saved tab groups, or old Collections?
    • Are you trying to find where this data is stored locally, recover old saved pages, or move the information to another device?
    • Which Microsoft Edge version are you currently using?

In the meantime, you can try these checks:

    • Open Edge and go to Settings and more (...) > More tools > Collections to see whether any old Collections content is still accessible.
    • Open Favorites by pressing Ctrl + Shift + O, then check whether there is a folder created from Collections, such as a folder containing your previously saved pages.
    • If you use a personal Microsoft account, check whether your old Collections content is still available through Bing Saves: Bing Saves.
    • If the exact “named window” behavior you need is no longer available or no longer persists as expected, I recommend sending feedback directly from Edge through Settings and more (...) > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

At this point, I would avoid manually editing Edge profile files unless you already have a full backup. A safer approach is to first check Favorites, Collections/Bing Saves, and Workspaces, depending on which feature you were using.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.
