How do you change the Microsoft password manager PIN? (6 digits) It seems to be a different PIN that I use to sign in to my PC. Also, is there a way to view the Microsoft password manager PIN before I change it? How do I access that, because I never set up a 6 digit pin.

    Hi Symone Giles,

I understand why this is confusing, especially if Microsoft Edge is asking for a 6-digit PIN that you do not remember setting up. Since this question is tagged under Microsoft Edge, I’ll focus on how this works when you are trying to access saved passwords through Microsoft Password Manager in Edge.

Just to narrow this down, could you please confirm a few things?

    • Does the 6-digit PIN prompt appear inside Microsoft Edge when you try to view a saved password, or does it appear on the Windows sign-in screen?
    • Are you signed in to Edge with a personal Microsoft account, or a work/school account?
    • In Windows, if you go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello), do you see Change PIN or I forgot my PIN?
    • What is the exact message shown on the PIN prompt?

In the meantime, please try these steps:

    • Open Windows Settings.
    • Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
    • Select PIN (Windows Hello).
    • If you know the current PIN, choose Change PIN and follow the prompts.
    • If you do not know the current PIN, choose I forgot my PIN and follow the verification steps to create a new one.

If you do not remember the PIN, resetting it through I forgot my PIN is the safer option. After changing or resetting the PIN, return to Edge and try accessing Microsoft Password Manager again. If Edge asks for verification, use the newly created Windows Hello PIN or your device password.

Also, if this Edge profile is signed in with a work or school account, some password manager or sign-in options may be restricted by your organization’s IT policy. If that applies, you may need to check with your IT admin as well.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.
