Xbox adaptive joystick problems with keyboard commands

I've just bought an 'Xbox Adaptive Joystick' and am having issues programming it.

Now, it works fine as an 'Xbox Controller', but when I change the buttons etc to use Keyboard commands, I can't get it to work properly.

Let me try to explain;

When I set the joystick to act as WASD and the trigger as 'SPACE' (JUMP) it doesn't work. I can move about with the WASD Joystick OR I can JUMP with the Trigger button, but I CAN'T 'move and jump' together.

NOW, if I move using the WASD joystick and press SPACE on my keyboard, it works. I can move and jump.

Am I missing a setting or a command in the XBOX Accessories program or is the controller limited to ONE keystoke at a time.

NOTE, I'm on PC with windows 11 and trying it with Conan Exiles Enhanced. I've tried different USB ports on my PC and even different cables.

Hi Vyns P

It’s not a hardware issue or a setting you missed, it’s a limitation of the Xbox Accessories keyboard mapping.

When you map the joystick to WASD and buttons to keys, the controller sends individual key events rather than true simultaneous keyboard input, so it often can’t combine inputs (e.g., movement + jump at the same time). That’s why WASD+SPACE works on a real keyboard but not from the controller mapping.

Workarounds:

  • Use the controller in normal (Xbox) mode instead of keyboard mode
  • Or use a third‑party tool like reWASD/JoyToKey/Steam Input, which can handle multiple simultaneous key presses properly (Note: This information is provided as a convenience to you. Hope this helps.
