The sidebar app list (also called the App Tower) in Microsoft Edge is being retired as part of simplifying Edge. New apps can no longer be added to the sidebar app list, and the icons currently pinned there will be removed in a future update.
However, the sidebar itself and Copilot are not being removed. The side pane will continue to be available, and many experiences are moving to other places:
The retirement is happening gradually over upcoming Edge updates, and users who still access the App Tower will be notified in-product before it is fully removed.
For organizations, admins can still manage the Edge sidebar behavior using policies such as HubsSidebarEnabled, EdgeOpenInSidebarEnabled, and others to control whether the sidebar is shown and how it can be customized.
