    Hi,

It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of troubleshooting already, First, reinstall the HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store, this codec is required for most 4K and H.265 videos, and even if you had it before, a system update can sometimes break or remove it. Next, reset your Media Feature Pack by turning it off and back on in Optional Features, then reboot, this can refresh damaged components that affect playback. Finally, if playback still fails, try using Windows Media Player (new) or Films & TV to confirm if the issue is codec-related; if those work fine, reinstalling a codec pack such as K-Lite Codec Pack (Standard) can restore legacy compatibility. Have you noticed if this started right after a Windows update, or do only certain file types (like .mkv or .mp4) fail to play?

    Kind regards,
